But don\u2019t worry. <strong>Munich and southern Bavaria are very safe regions concerning natural hazards<\/strong> <strong>like floodings, thunderstorms, and severe downpours.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f72545b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f72545b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Storms and severe winds<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-13d8ea7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"13d8ea7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In Germany can encounter storms with wind speeds up to 64 knots (12 bft, 120 km\/h, 75 mph). <strong>Fortunately, severe storms only occur every 5-10 years<\/strong>. The last severe storms that hit southern Germany were in 1990 (storms \u201eVivian\u201c and \u201eWiebke\u201c), 1999 (storms \u201eLothar\u201c and \u201eMartin\u201c), 2007 (storm \u201eKyrill\u201c), 2015 (storm &#8222;Niklas&#8220;), and 2020 (storm &#8222;Sabine&#8220;)<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ae1d0a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ae1d0a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Different storm-names<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef5362f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ef5362f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Like Hurricanes, the European windstorms get names. <strong>The European windstorms usually appear during late winter (January \u2013 April) or autumn (September-November).<\/strong> An interesting fact is, that the different European weather services name the same storms differently. So if you travel across Europe and you watch the media in different countries while there is a storm going on, you\u2019ll notice that the name changes from country to country. For example, the 1999 December storm was called \u201eAnatol\u201c in German-speaking countries, but got the name \u201eAdam\u201c in Denmark, \u201eCarola\u201c in Sweden, and \u201eDecember hurricane\u201c in Great Britain.<\/p><p><strong>In contrast to Hurricanes in the USA, European windstorms (German: \u201eOrkan\u201c) usually appear without rain or thunderstorms<\/strong>. It is actually just extremely windy. Sometimes there can even be a clear sky.
