The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Munich is from my point of view probably the most renowned hotel in the city. It combines pure luxury with an absolutely central location (directly next to the world’s famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall, a five minute walk to the city center and just around the corner to Maximilianstrasse shopping street) and great amenities like a rooftop bar with alpine view and a very good japanese-peruvian crossover restaurant. As it is really close to the city center you will have access to all public transport options (urban rail, subway, tramway and bus). The stations are just around the corner. Or take a taxi to explore Munich. If you like to explore the inner city and area around the hotel first, I recommend booking an exclusive private walking tour with a local. The hotel also offers Mercedes Benz rental bikes, which is a fancy add on.

There are 48 rooms and 25 suites, so it is a rather small sized hotel when it comes to the maximum number of guests. But this fact is one of the things that define luxury.
All rooms are equipped with king-size beds and crisp linens. The hotel wants to ensure you have the highest comfort. The rooms are designed with carpets, original artwork and Neo-Classic prints. All guest rooms feature sleek cherry wood furniture in Neo-Biedermeier style, with subtle Asian influences, reflecting the oriental heritage of the luxury hotel group. In addition, all of the rooms offer complimentary mini bar, state-of-the art entertainment such as flatscreen televisions, in both the bedroom and bathroom, and a yoga mat for morning stretch. All bathrooms are equipped with walk-in shower, separate bathtub, toilet and bidet as well as underfloor heating and exclusive bath products.

If you decide to check in to one of the top suites, you will enjoy up to 325 sqm / 3.500 sq ft (Grand Presidential Suite) with five bedrooms, a winter garden and a wraparound balcony.

The Mandarin Oriental Munich has three dining areas, which are also open to the public, so you will not only find hotel guests but also Munich locals enjoying a good time.

The Matsuhisa is the flagship restaurant of the hotel. It is a japanese-peruvian crossover restaurant, run by famous chef Noboyuki Matsuhisa. The restaurant follows the same successful format as the original Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills.

The Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental Munich is not just a waiting and relaxing area where you can plan your excursions to Munich. You can have a coffee or afternoon tea with cake specialties as well as international snacks during lunch and dinner time.

From my point of view, The Terrace is one of the most magnificent rooftop bars in Munich (open during the summer). It combines a unique view over the old town with attentive service and very good signature cocktails. Especially on warm summer evenings you can relax here and enjoy the view up to the Alps.

What people dislike:

• well…actually nothing. Some opinions mention tiny imperfections such as the rooftop staff not being able to serve tomato juice, or things that are very subjective such as the comfort of the beds.

What to know:

• The Mandarin oriental Munich doesn’t have a rooftop pool. You will find reviews around the internet mentioning it has a rooftop pool. On the rooftop you will just find the great rooftop bar called „The Terrace“ (formerly known as „China Moon Rooftop Terrace“)
• World’s famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall is literally just around the corner.

Getting to the very central located Mandarin Oriental Munich is quite easy. You can get there

• By public transport
  The urban rail (S-Bahn) stations „Marienplatz/City Centre“ and „Isartor“ are just five to ten minutes away by foot. From there you have direct connections to the Main Station (Lines S1, S2, S4, S6, S7 and S8) and Munich International Airport (Lines S1 and S8)
• By taxi/limousine service
  Choose your favourite transport service and the driver will bring you to the hotel. The hotel also offers an airport pick-up.
• By (rental) car
  The hotel is quite easy to reach. Anyway I recommend to use a navigation system, as the streets around the hotel are narrow and often left turns are not allowed. Also the parking situation is quite complicatied. On-street-parking is possible (metered), but often you won’t find any free space. My tip: there is a 24/7 public parking garage just around the corner (Parkhaus Hofbräuhaus).
